Drosera spatulata, commonly called the spoon-leaved sundew, is a small, ground-hugging carnivorous plant native to Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Southeast Asia. It forms compact, flat rosettes of spoon-shaped leaves, usually no more than 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. Each leaf is covered in glistening, sticky glandular hairs that secrete a dew-like substance to attract and trap insects. When an insect is caught, the leaf may slowly curl around the prey to aid in digestion, allowing the plant to absorb essential nutrients.

This species is highly adaptable and thrives in nutrient-poor, boggy environments, making it one of the easiest sundews to cultivate. The coloration of Drosera spatulata can range from pale green to deep red, depending on light conditions and variety. It is a perennial plant that produces delicate pink or white flowers on slender stalks, typically during the spring or summer. The flowers are self-fertile, enabling the plant to produce large quantities of seed, which readily germinate and can quickly fill neighboring pots, making it a prolific and sometimes weedy presence in carnivorous plant collections.

Drosera spatulata prefers open, sunny conditions and moist, acidic soils, such as a mix of peat and sand or perlite. It does not require a dormancy period and can be grown year-round, making it suitable for terrariums, greenhouses, or outdoor bog gardens in mild climates. Its ease of care, attractive appearance, and efficient insect-trapping mechanism make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced carnivorous plant enthusiasts.
