Sansevieria Variegated Whale Fin (Sansevieria masoniana 'Variegata') is a striking statement plant known for its single, large, paddle-shaped leaf marked with beautiful variegation. Each leaf features a mix of dark and light green, creamy white, and sometimes yellow, creating a unique look for every plant. The thick, robust leaf resembles the fin of a whale, which gives the plant its distinctive name.

This plant thrives in moderate to bright, indirect light to best preserve its vibrant coloring. While it can adapt to lower light, its growth will slow, and the variegated patterns may be less pronounced. Avoid direct sunlight, which can bleach or scorch the leaves. A spot within a few feet of a bright window is usually ideal.

Sansevieria Variegated Whale Fin is very drought-tolerant. Water only when the soil is completely dry—usually every 2 to 6 weeks, depending on light and humidity in your home. In winter, water even less often. Always water thoroughly, letting excess water drain out, and never let the plant sit in water, as this can lead to root rot. Overwatering is the most common problem, with yellow or mushy leaves as warning signs.

Plant Sansevieria Variegated Whale Fin in a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend, possibly with added perlite or pumice for improved drainage. Repot only when the plant outgrows its container, which is typically every 2–3 years.

This plant thrives in average room humidity and enjoys temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C). It does not need extra humidity and tolerates normal indoor conditions well. Keep it away from cold drafts and vents to prevent chilling.

Minimal feeding is required: if desired, fertilize once a month during spring and summer with a diluted succulent fertilizer, and skip fertilizing in fall and winter. Maintenance is easy—simply wipe the leaf with a damp cloth to keep it dust-free and check occasionally for pests such as mealybugs or spider mites, which are uncommon but possible. Note that this plant is toxic if ingested, so keep it out of reach of pets and children.

With its sculptural leaf, low-maintenance care, and dramatic presence, Sansevieria Variegated Whale Fin is a superb addition to any home or office, perfect for plant enthusiasts of all experience levels.
