Add a touch of tropical charm to your indoor plant collection with the stunning Fishbone Cactus (Disocactus anguliger), also commonly known as the Ric Rac Cactus or Zig Zag Cactus. This eye-catching tropical cactus is loved for its distinctive, wavy stems that resemble the shape of a fishbone. With its lush green foliage and unique architectural appearance, the Fishbone Cactus makes a beautiful statement in any home or office.
Unlike traditional desert cacti, the Fishbone Cactus is a tropical epiphytic cactus that naturally grows in the warm, humid forests of Mexico. Its long, flat, zigzag-shaped stems gracefully trail as they mature, creating a beautiful cascading display. Perfect for hanging baskets, elevated shelves, decorative planters, or plant stands, this fascinating houseplant adds texture, movement, and a playful tropical feel to any indoor space. Mature plants may also produce large, fragrant, creamy-white flowers under ideal growing conditions.
Relatively easy to care for, the Fishbone Cactus thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and prefers a well-draining, airy potting mix. Unlike desert cacti, it appreciates slightly more frequent watering, allowing the top layer of soil to dry between waterings while avoiding soggy conditions. Moderate to high humidity, warm temperatures, and protection from harsh direct sunlight will help encourage healthy growth and vibrant green stems.
Perfect for both beginner plant enthusiasts and experienced collectors, the Fishbone Cactus is an excellent choice for anyone looking to add something truly unique to their indoor jungle. With its striking zigzag foliage, graceful trailing growth habit, and easygoing tropical nature, this captivating cactus is sure to become a standout feature in any plant collection.
